What is a CDN (Content Delivery Network)?

April 20, 2017

A content delivery network (CDN), also know as content distribution network, involves management of the inter connectivity of cached (stored) web-based data via a number of servers in strategically considered locations like the UK and overseas. CDN enables the management and redirection of content and traffic via various platforms, such as Cloud technology and mobile devices , to improve response times for information retrieval, ultimately improving customer experience and overall search rankings.

CDN also supports geographic proximity and has enabled key developments driven by mobile targeting, monitoring and management of user activity (GeoIP Routing). This has been particularly relevant to entertainment and service industries targeting customers in the UK and overseas, effectively enabling interaction with potential customers in relevant locations highlighting awareness, triggering impulse actions, generating and promoting marketing opportunities with lower spend than many traditional above the line methods.
